The Position

This position reports to the Principal. As a Primary Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment where young learners can thrive. You will plan and deliver lessons across core subjects, differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, and assess student progress regularly. Building positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is essential, as is fostering a love of learning, creativity, and critical thinking. Our District

Yellowknife Catholic Schools has been providing quality publicly funded education to northern students for over sixty-five years. We are the only faith-based district in the Northwest Territories. Although we are a Catholic school district, we welcome families of all faiths. As a Catholic Education system, we encourage our students to be socially responsible. We want them to think critically about faith and to make decisions based on their spirituality and the knowledge that faith promotes being a good person. We use our faith-filled classrooms to explore how to live as people – letting our lights shine in the world.

Yellowknife Catholic Schools’ vision of learning empowers students and staff to engage, explore, grow, and thrive in a multitude of ways. Our mission is to support student learning and well-being from JK – grade 12 so that all students can develop the skills and characteristics they need to be capable people in the world. Education, Culture, and Employment defines a capable person as: “…one who has integrity in relationships that honour the self, others, the land, and the spiritual world. Through these relationships, a capable person grows and develops a more expansive understanding of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – the four parts of human development.”

Our district has three schools and one technical center with approximately 230 staff members and 1500 students. We offer programming in English and French from JK – 12, as well as Core Willideh Yati and Core French. We have a strong Indigenous Language and Culture Education program that combines the Dene Kede curriculum and on-the-land experiences with traditional ways of knowing and doing. As a district, we are committed to deepening our work in recognizing the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action.

Our Community

Yellowknife offers many opportunities during all seasons from enjoying the midnight sun while fishing on the lake, golfing on our unique course, aurora hunting and ice fishing in the winter, or swimming, hiking, skiing, canoeing, and kayaking around our great region; the Chief Drygeese Territory in the Akaitcho region, the traditional lands of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation.
