Teacher Assistant (3-5 Year-Olds)

What you will be doing…
Responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of an education plan, that is designed to meet the needs of each individual child enrolled in the program in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and NAEYC Standards.
Responsibilities:
· Ensure the implementation of the preschool program ensuring adherence to funding requirements as set by Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC (National Education for the Education of Young Children) Standards and other licensing requirements.
· Promote the safety, trust, respect and security for children, staff, and parents, by creating and establishing a safe environment.
· Provide an overall classroom environment that is reflective of multi-ethnic populations, is conducive to enjoyment, relaxation and socialization and has well defined interest areas.
· Promotes recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children and among staff.
· Prepare and implement lesson plans that encompass the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth of all children.
· Oversee implementation of Creative Curriculum, NAEYC standards and Head Start Standards as it pertains to classroom program and ensure all information is entered into designated operating system (i.e., COPA, Teaching Strategies GOLD, portfolios, etc.)
· Explore new curriculum ideas by utilizing external resources that are age appropriate.
· Oversee, instruct, monitor, and evaluate outputs that result in the achievement of program outcomes as outlined in the Program Outcome Plan making recommendations to immediate supervisor as needed.
· Complete and submit required reports, documentation, etc. as it relates to Creative Curriculum, NAEYC and Head Start.
· Introduce and teach language development skills, concepts of numbers, colors, shapes, textures, science skills, music and rhythm, and arts and crafts.
· Utilize appropriate child development practices regarding guidance and discipline.
· Establish effective working relationships with parents; maintain close, daily contact with parents of the children, and meet with them through annual parent/teacher conferences, home visits and on an individual basis as needed.
· Meet with and make referrals to Family Support Worker when appropriate.
· Meet with program staff for staffing on individual children.
· Collaborate with other staff, volunteers, and/or neighborhood organizations with on-going program implementation and in developing special events.
MUST HAVE
· AA degree – Preferably BA in Early Childhood Education Required
· Gateways to Opportunity Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level 5
· One to three years’ experience in teaching in an education environment and working with parents
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
