For more than 50 years, Cinnabar Valley Farms has manufactured soil products and distributed horticultural products to independent garden centres, retail chains, and other customers throughout Western Canada.
Our manufacturing operation and head office are located in Nanaimo, BC. As part of our continued growth, we are opening a new Distribution Centre in Pitt Meadows to support customers throughout the Lower Mainland, Interior British Columbia, the Prairies, and other Canadian markets.
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Supply Chain Manager to help establish the new facility and take ownership of several critical areas of our Canadian supply chain operation.
The Position
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Supply Chain Manager will be responsible for inventory management, purchasing, demand forecasting, replenishment planning, transportation, and regional logistics.
The position will also provide senior operational oversight of the Pitt Meadows Distribution Centre. A Warehouse Manager will be responsible for the daily management of the warehouse team, while the Supply Chain Manager will provide broader leadership, direction, planning, coordination, and accountability.
This is a highly visible position for someone who can combine strategic planning with practical execution. The successful candidate must be comfortable building systems, improving processes, managing people, analyzing data, working with suppliers and carriers, and becoming directly involved when operational problems arise.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management and Forecasting
- Lead inventory planning and replenishment across the company’s distribution network.
- Develop seasonal and annual inventory forecasts using sales history, customer demand, lead times, purchasing commitments, and growth projections.
- Establish and maintain appropriate minimum and maximum inventory levels.
- Monitor inventory availability, turnover, overstocks, shortages, aging inventory, and service levels.
- Improve inventory accuracy through cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliation processes, and root-cause analysis.
- Coordinate inventory transfers between Nanaimo and Pitt Meadows.
- Prepare inventory reports, forecasts, risks, and recommendations for senior management.
- Support working capital management by balancing product availability with responsible inventory investment.
Purchasing and Supplier Management
- Lead purchasing activities for distributed products, packaging, supplies, and other assigned categories.
- Review purchasing requirements and issue purchase orders based on forecasts, lead times, inventory levels, and sales demand.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, freight arrangements, and service expectations.
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively address delays, shortages, quality issues, and discrepancies.
- Work closely with finance, sales, operations, production, and warehouse teams to ensure purchasing decisions support company priorities.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve purchasing efficiency without compromising service or quality.
Transportation and Logistics
- Lead transportation planning for shipments outside Vancouver Island, including the Lower Mainland, Interior BC, the Prairies, and EAST.
- Manage carrier relationships, freight rates, delivery schedules, claims, service levels, and transportation costs.
- Develop efficient routing, load planning, consolidation, and delivery strategies.
- Monitor freight performance and address delays, damages, missed deliveries, and capacity constraints.
- Support seasonal transportation planning during periods of significant volume and demand.
Pitt Meadows Distribution Centre Oversight
- Help establish the operational systems, procedures, layout, inventory controls, and service standards for the new Pitt Meadows Distribution Centre.
- Provide senior oversight and support to the Warehouse Manager.
- Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, reporting structures, and performance measures.
- Monitor warehouse productivity, inventory accuracy, order fulfilment, shipping performance, receiving, safety, and labour efficiency.
- Support the Warehouse Manager with staffing plans, training, performance management, and operational problem-solving.
- Ensure warehouse operations remain aligned with company-wide inventory, customer-service, and financial objectives.
- Promote a safe, organized, accountable, and continuously improving workplace.
Leadership and Continuous Improvement
- Develop practical supply chain policies, procedures, controls, and performance dashboards.
- Identify bottlenecks, risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities throughout the supply chain.
- Lead process-improvement initiatives related to purchasing, inventory, warehouse flow, transportation, reporting, and communication.
- Establish meaningful KPIs and provide regular performance reporting to senior management.
- Work collaboratively across sales, finance, production, warehousing, customer service, and transportation.
- Build a supply chain function that can support the company’s long-term growth.
- Develop and mentor employees while creating accountability at every level.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive experience in supply chain, purchasing, inventory management, logistics, warehousing, distribution, or operations.
- Previous experience at the Supervisor or Manager level.
- Demonstrated experience in several of the following areas:
- Purchasing and procurement
- Inventory management
- Demand forecasting and replenishment
- Warehousing and distribution
- Transportation and freight management
- Supplier and carrier negotiations
- Operational leadership
- Experience supervising supervisors, or operational teams.
- Strong understanding of inventory controls, purchasing processes, warehouse operations, freight, and supply chain performance.
- Experience working with ERP, inventory-management, warehouse-management, or purchasing systems.
- Strong analytical skills and confidence working with spreadsheets, forecasts, reports, and operational data.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, establish priorities, and follow through on commitments.
- Willingness to remain hands-on and directly involved in operational execution.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally between Pitt Meadows, Nanaimo, suppliers, customers, and other company locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree, diploma, or professional training in supply chain management, operations, logistics, business, or a related field.
- SCMP, CSCP, CPIM, CLTD, Lean Six Sigma, or similar professional designation.
- Experience in seasonal business, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, horticulture, agriculture, building materials, consumer products, or another physical-product environment.
- Experience opening, expanding, relocating, or improving a warehouse or distribution centre.
- Experience managing a large and diverse SKU portfolio.
- Experience with domestic and international purchasing.
- Experience developing dashboards, KPIs, SOPs, and standardized processes.

You will be comfortable challenging existing processes, making recommendations, building structure, and taking ownership. You will not be limited to one supply chain specialty.
