POSITION NOTES: 5 hours per week Lunch supervision – 11:45 am to 12:45 pm
TITLE:
SUPERVISION ASSISTANT/CROSSING GUARD DEPARTMENT: ALL SCHOOLS
REPORTS TO:
PRINCIPAL SUMMARY:
With minimal direction, the Supervision Assistant monitors and assists students during unstructured time such as recess, lunch hour, before and after school periods, and between classes.
DUTIES:
Observes and assists students inside the school, on the school grounds and at crosswalks. Notes and reports any unusual behavior or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel but resolves any minor disagreements where possible. Promotes and fosters co-operative relationships. Ensures that students enter the school at the end of breaks, as required. Supervises the transfer of students to and from appropriate buses, as required.
Communicates with the school principal, and others as required. Attends to any minor cuts or bruises as required. Performs duties in compliance with safety regulations. May be assigned duties specific to each school. Required to work outside in inclement weather. Performs other Supervision Assistant duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS Grade 12
education
. Minimum six months related experience with children either as a parent or voluntary leader (e.g. scouts, soccer coach, Sunday School teacher, etc.).
Ability to
effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to
perform individually and as part of a team.
Ability to
follow directions with regard to work areas and work schedules.
Ability to
maintain confidentiality.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
USED Common School grounds equipment. PHYSICAL ABILITIES Sufficient vision and hearing to perform assigned duties independently. Physical ability to assist students as required. Manual dexterity.
