SQF Practitioner & Food Safety Coordinator – Food Industry

On-site, 5 days per week (no remote work available)

Position Summary

The SQF Practitioner & Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the facility’s Food Safety and Quality Management System in accordance with SQF, HACCP, FDA, regulatory, and customer requirements. The position serves as the designated SQF Practitioner and is responsible for coordinating food safety programs, certification activities, audit preparation, customer requests, and regulatory compliance initiatives. The role also serves as a backup to the QC Manager and provides support for quality control activities as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, verify, and continuously improve the SQF System, HACCP Plan, Food Safety Plan, prerequisite programs, and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with SQF requirements, FDA regulations, and customer expectations.
  • Coordinate SQF certification activities, surveillance audits, recertification audits, customer audits, FDA inspections, Organic certification applications and audits, and other regulatory inspections, including audit preparation, corrective action follow-up, and maintenance of certification records.
  • Oversee and maintain food safety programs including HACCP, allergen management, traceability, recall, GMPs, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs.
  • Ensure compliance with SQF, FDA, GMP, labeling, and other applicable food safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit third-party certification applications, customer questionnaires, technical information requests, and food safety documentation required by customers, certification bodies, and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain document control systems, food safety records, specifications, procedures, forms, work instructions, and training records.
  • Conduct internal audits, food safety inspections, risk assessments, verification activities, and program reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate food safety and quality training programs and promote awareness of food safety requirements throughout the facility.
  • Respond to customer requests and provide supporting documentation, certifications, specifications, and technical information as required.
  • Prepare food safety and quality performance reports and communicate program status, audit findings, corrective actions, and key metrics to management.
  • Serve as backup for the QC Manager by performing quality control activities including product inspections, line checks, sampling, testing coordination, product release activities, management of non-conforming materials, product traceability exercises, mock recalls, product investigations, and review of laboratory testing results.
  • Perform other duties related to food safety, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in food manufacturing quality and food safety.
  • Qualified SQF Practitioner and HACCP certified, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe; PCQI certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of SQF Code requirements, HACCP principles, FDA regulations, GMPs, food safety systems, and customer requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, technical writing, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, quality management systems, and ERP systems (SAP experience preferred).

Pay: $55,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
