As part of Aecon’s Utilities sector, the AUE team plays a pivotal role in supporting construction through in‑house engineering expertise. AUE is dedicated to enhancing project outcomes by integrating value‑added quality‑management assurance programs that meet and exceed client expectations.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Establish and maintain quality control (QC) processes in compliance with Municipal Operations Centre standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Implement QC procedures to ensure the integrity of documents, electronic images, and records.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to processes, systems, technologies, and procedures.
  • Resolve routine challenges independently, while escalating complex issues to senior team members as needed.
  • Interpret permit drawings and utilize city websites to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Designers and Field Inspectors to troubleshoot and resolve design‑related issues.
  • Prepare design drawings, quantity calculations, and as‑built documentation for various utility projects using software such as AutoCAD and Micro Station.
  • Retrieve physical records from customer databases and other record‑management systems.
  • Conduct field work and data collection to ensure compliance with CSA/ESA guidelines for aerial, buried, and underground structures.
  • Analyze and interpret records to develop cost‑effective designs aligned with client requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation related to design and project‑management activities.
  • Monitor ongoing projects to ensure adherence to standard construction methods.
  • Audit CAD drawings for FTTH and coaxial projects, validating clearances, layer standards, symbology, and annotation accuracy.
  • Provide feedback to the CAD team and support training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Design QC and Permitting teams to ensure regulatory compliance.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in Telephony Outside Plant Engineering design, including copper and fibre networks and structural design.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and 3D), including experience customizing scripts, tools, and menus.
  • Prior drafting or design experience in the Telephony industry.
  • Proven experience obtaining Municipal Consents from various municipalities.
  • College diploma or university degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Civil, Electrical, Surveying), or equivalent field experience in telephony splicing, construction, or utility locating services.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and municipal stakeholders.
  • In‑depth understanding of municipal standards; familiarity with CSA standards is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Solid understanding of telecommunications, electrical/civil engineering drawings, and site plans.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, with a strong attendance record and safety awareness.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to efficiently proofread technical documents.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing solutions or escalating when necessary.
  • Comfortable working in a high‑volume, process‑driven environment.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and execute tasks effectively.

The expected pay range for this role is $55,000 – $65,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
