Job DescriptionThis is a full time position within the Response to Violence program that provides services to individuals to enable them to stop their violence toward their intimate partner. The incumbent will co-facilitate groups, maintain appropriate partner contact, and provide short term crisis counseling, referral and advocacy as required in both the sex offender treatment program and the alternatives to violence area. The incumbent will actively contribute to program evaluation and development and assist with the day to day administration of the program. This position is located at City Hospital.

Job QualificationsRequired Qualifications

Masters Degree in Social Work

Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW)

Experience

A minimum of one year experience working with adults in a mental health setting preferably in the area of family violence and/or sexual offending. Experience and expertise in working with groups is essential.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

A solid theoretical understanding of best practice models, current research and relapse prevention including an understanding of family violence issues, including sexual offending, domestic violence, and relapse prevention.

Ability to work collaboratively with community groups and affiliated services.

Ability to work effectively in a team based, multi-disciplinary program

Ability to work with individuals presenting with complex issues, including co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorder.

Directly related experience working with individuals who are violent and/or sexually offend, preferably in a mental health or family services setting.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Good organizational skills.

High degree of comfort in dealing with suicidal ideation, violence and abuse, and histories of trauma.

Highly developed counseling skills, including work with groups, individuals, couple and families.

Knowledge of various mental disorders, their etiology, and optimal plans for treatment and intervention, including cognitive behavioral and brief psychotherapy.

Sensitivity to cross cultural issues and demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals who are First Nations or Metis.

Strong written and oral communication skills including comfort with public speaking and media contact.

Field Hours

Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement. HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.
