Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Small Engine Mechanic to join our dynamic service team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety. Your expertise will help customers get their outdoor power equipment, lawnmowers, generators, and other small engines back in top condition. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of machinery, apply your mechanical skills, and deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Duties
- Diagnose issues with small engines, including lawnmowers, chainsaws, trimmers, and generators using schematics and technical manuals
- Perform repairs on small engines and related equipment, including electrical and mechanical components
- Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, spark plug replacements, belt adjustments, and carburetor cleaning
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, and diagnostic tools to complete repairs efficiently
- Test repaired equipment to ensure proper operation and safety standards are met before returning to customers
- Maintain detailed service records of repairs performed and parts used for each job
- Assist customers by explaining repair procedures and providing recommendations for ongoing maintenance or upgrades
Requirements
- Proven experience as a small engine mechanic or in a related automotive or equipment repair role; dealership experience is highly preferred
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read schematics and technical manuals accurately
- Experience repairing diesel engines, generators, heavy machinery, or Caterpillar equipment is a plus
- Proficiency with electrical systems, soldering techniques, and troubleshooting electrical issues
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures and the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic devices
- Ability to lift heavy objects safely and perform physically demanding tasks regularly
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients
- Knowledge of sales processes related to recommending parts or services is advantageous
- Valid certification or training in automotive repair or heavy equipment repair is desirable
