Description:

Introduction to the diversity of chordate animals (vertebrates, tunicates, and lancelets), focusing on morphological, physiological, ecological and behavioural traits that make each group special and how those traits increase vulnerability to human-based exploitation. Labs involve living organisms whenever possible, but only for display purposes.

Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026

Salary (0.5 FCE): $9,997.48 for Sessional Lecturer I ($10,699.22 for SLI Long Term); $10,699.22 for Sessional Lecturer II ($10,953.96 for SLII Long Term); $10,953.96 for Sessional Lecturer III ($11,273.90 for SLIII Long Term), inclusive of vacation pay

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of the subject area and ability in teaching the course subject at a university level. A strong background in vertebrate diversity or systematics, ecology and/or evolutionary biology;
PhD in biology; demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience teaching this or a similar university-level course.

Description of Duties: Prepare and deliver all lectures and laboratory activities; supervise teaching assistants assigned to course; available for office hours; prepare, supervise, and grade assignments, tests and examinations, as appropriate, in accordance with University regulations as described in the Faculty of Arts & Science Academic Handbook.
