Grounded is an innovative, Detroit-based startup founded by ex-SpaceX engineers, focusing on the development of smart, modular electric vehicle systems. We specialize in modernizing and electrifying cargo vans and trailers with an end-to-end modular battery and charging management solution. Our initial focus is on electric RVs with plans to expand into additional verticals such as contractor trucks and landscaping trailers.
Our products streamline assembly time, reduce fleet management costs, and modernize vehicles for different use cases. We are part of a 270,000 square foot shared manufacturing incubator space (Newlab Detroit, backed by Ford), placing us at the forefront of the electric vehicle revolution.
We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and versatile Lead Technician to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Use quality carpentry skills to lead the fabrication of prototype and production hardware
- Own the fit and finish modules in our final customer product
- Hands on operations with both large and small fragile assemblies
- Read and interpret blue prints
- Perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions
- Use various mechanical tools without instruction
- Collaborate with production engineers to develop and document activities
- Ensure all production services are performed on time, safely and in a professional manner
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
- Give feedback to engineering design from a manufacturing perspective
- Lead, oversee and participate in all physical builds of interior vehicle systems.
- Help to establish the company’s production culture, processes, and standardsQualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 10+ years of professional experience with construction or automotive hardware installation
- Demonstrated experience with the complete lifecycle of mechanical design projects
- Ability to work with minimal guidance
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask in a dynamic startup environment.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
- Experience with electric vehicle systems and/or mobile power solutions is a plus.
- Experience in the automotive industry, recreational vehicle, military or other high-volume operating environment preferred
- A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, manuals and reports
- Ability to use basic technology
- Experience with forklifts is a plus

Compensation
This role will be compensated with a base salary plus equity in the company.
Additional Notes
This role is an in-person role in Detroit. We are located in Corktown, right next to the Michigan train station on the Ford-backed Michigan Central campus at 2050 15th St. It’s a manufacturing incubator so we have access to $10M of equipment, and are surrounded by other innovative hardware startups.
