Position Overview

Select Demo Services, LLC is seeking an accomplished and strategic Senior Manager of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) to lead the company’s health, safety, and environmental compliance programs across our demolition, environmental remediation, and specialty contracting operations.

This executive-level leadership position is responsible for developing and implementing enterprise-wide safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The successful candidate will serve as the company’s primary representative for regulatory agencies, oversee Workers’ Compensation and risk management programs, and partner with executive leadership to drive a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.

With projects performed nationally, this individual must possess extensive experience managing safety and environmental programs for complex construction and demolition operations across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide strategic leadership for all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance initiatives across the organization on a nationwide basis.
  • Develop and implement company-wide HSE policies, standards, and best practices that promote a culture of safety and operational excellence.
  • Works alongside a team of third party Health & Safety Advisors who currently oversee Select Demo’s Safety Program. Manages a Select Demo National Safety Manager.
  • Establish departmental goals, performance metrics, and succession planning initiatives to build a high-performing safety organization.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture through leadership, accountability, employee engagement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with executive leadership, project management, and field operations to integrate safety and risk management into every phase of project execution.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on strategic health, safety, environmental, and risk management matters.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure company compliance with all applicable OSHA, EPA, DEP, Department of Labor Standards (DLS), DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary company representative during regulatory inspections, investigations, compliance audits, and enforcement actions.
  • Manage responses to OSHA inspections, EPA/DEP site visits, and DLS investigations while coordinating with legal counsel and executive leadership as necessary.
  • Lead negotiations with regulatory agencies regarding citations, notices of violation, settlements, abatement requirements, and corrective action plans.
  • Develop and oversee company compliance programs to minimize regulatory risk and ensure adherence to evolving industry standards.
  • Manage the company’s third-party safety prequalification programs and contractor compliance platforms, including ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce, Highwire, and other client-specific qualification systems. Ensure all required safety documentation, insurance information, training records, EMR/TRIR/DART data, OSHA logs, written programs, and supporting documentation are maintained accurately and submitted on time to preserve client compliance and eligibility to bid and perform work.

Safety & Environmental Management

  • Conduct executive-level safety audits and field evaluations across active projects throughout the East Coast.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
  • Support environmental remediation projects involving asbestos, lead, mold, hazardous waste, PCB remediation, contaminated soils, and other regulated materials.
  • Monitor company safety performance indicators, including EMR, TRIR, DART, and leading indicators, and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Develop, write, review, and maintain project-specific Health & Safety Plans (HASPs), Site Safety Plans (SSPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other client- and project-specific safety documentation for demolition, environmental remediation, abatement, and construction projects. Ensure all plans meet applicable OSHA, EPA, client, and regulatory requirements while addressing site-specific hazards, work methodologies, emergency response procedures, and environmental controls.

Risk Management & Workers’ Compensation

  • Manage the company’s Workers’ Compensation program from incident reporting through claim resolution.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, legal counsel, medical providers, and injured employees to effectively manage claims and return-to-work programs.
  • Analyze claims data and loss trends to develop strategies that reduce injuries, costs, and overall organizational risk.
  • Participate in insurance renewals, risk assessments, and loss control initiatives.

Training & Development

  • Oversee company safety orientation, regulatory training, and continuing education programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HAZWOPER, respiratory protection, confined space, fall protection, and other applicable training requirements.
  • Promote leadership development and accountability throughout the organization to strengthen the company’s safety culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in construction, demolition, environmental remediation, or industrial safety, with at least five years managing and developing safety professionals or multi-person safety teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead, mentor, and retain high-performing safety teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous professional development.
  • Proven experience creating career development plans, succession strategies, and training programs that enable Health & Safety Advisors to advance into leadership roles.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence employees at all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within demolition, heavy civil construction, environmental remediation, or specialty contracting.
  • Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure assessments.
  • Background in corporate risk management and insurance loss control.
  • Experience developing and implementing ISO or other formal safety management systems.
  • Strong working relationships with regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
