About the role:
Reporting to the Senior Specialist of Sustainability Risk & Assurance, the Senior Lead, Assurance provides enterprise-wide leadership for EVR’s assurance programs across legal compliance and responsible mining frameworks.This role is accountable for the design and execution of assurance programs aligned with Health, Safety, Environment, Communities & Human Rights (HSEC&HR) standards, Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM), and International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) requirements, as well as Legal and voluntary compliance obligations.
You will lead assurance activities across EVR’s operating assets, working directly with asset teams to assess performance, identify risk, and drive practical, implementable corrective actions. The role plays a key part in providing clear, credible assurance outcomes to senior EVR and Glencore leadership.This is a hand-on, field-connected assurance role requiring strong judgement, credibility with assets, and the ability to translate audit findings into business-relevant insights.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a substantial contribution to the sustainability of mining and improving water quality through advancing the objectives of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan.
In this role you will:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
- Lead and execute assurance programs
- Plan and deliver audits and reviews across multiple assets, ensuring consistency, quality and aligning to leading practices
- Partner with assets and regional teams to validate findings, develop risk-based, practical corrective actions and sustained performance improvements
- Lead and oversee closure verification — validate and evidence corrective-action completion (closure criteria, verification schedules and re‑audits)
- Integrate assurance activities across disciplines to reduce duplication and asset audit fatigue
- Track and analyze assurance outcomes, identifying systemic risks, trends, and recurring issues
- Provide clear, concise reporting to senior leadership, translating complex findings into actionable insights
- Manage external assurance providers, including scope development, contractor oversight, and budgets
- Strengthen first- and second-line assurance capability across the business through training, coaching and mentoring
Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Natural Resources, Engineering, or related fields. A diploma will be considered with appropriate experience
- 7-10+ years of experience in environment, social, sustainability or operational assurance/auditing, preferably in mining or oil & gas industry
- Demonstrated experience auditing against one or more of: TSM protocols, ICMM Performance expectations, ISO 14001, or similar management systems, Environmental or social regulatory frameworks. Strong working knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial environmental legislation and compliance frameworks
- Formal audit training (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor) or risk/assurance certification is an asset
- Proven ability to engage credibly with assets and technical teams, challenge constructively while maintaining strong relationships, translate audit findings into practical, risk-based recommendations
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to distill complex issues into clear executive-level messaging, experience with analytics tools such as Power BI is preferred. Experience managing multiple audits or projects across assets, including contractor oversight and budget management
- Willingness and ability to travel to asset locations
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $123,000.00-$152,000.00 per year
