The Opportunity:
Senior Estimator If you enjoy collecting sub-trade tenders and punching numbers into software quietly in your office while attending
online meetings
with your camera off, this job isn’t for you. Most projects completed at DORA Construction start at the conceptual phase and the Senior Estimator will work along with the Preconstruction Team providing budget inputs and advice to the design team until turned over to Operations for Construction.
Formal Budgets and Estimates will be provided at design milestones, but input will also be required to help the team in decision-making. Key tasks and skills:
Practical knowledge of building structure, envelope, and systems to enable creation of budgets with limited design details.
Inclination to speak with suppliers, trades, engineers, and others to “Figure it out” during the conceptual stages.
Leading estimating team tenders to trades and suppliers, ensuring scopes of work are clear and simple.
Communicating before and during tenders with suppliers and trades to generate interest.
Evaluation of received bids against the scope of work.
Mentoring junior team
members.
Wood frame construction experience would be an asset.
Participating in an iterative design development from a cost & manufacturing perspective.
Working collaboratively with the Engineering, Preconstruction, Operations, & Planning departments is frequent and necessary.
Qualifications and Knowledge:10+ Years Commercial or Residential Construction Estimating with the ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously.
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
Excellent
communication
, interpersonal, and business management skills are required.
Proficiency in MS Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Ability to
learn (Pro Est) in house estimating software.
Excellent research skills and
attention to detail

Ability to
review and understand construction specifications, detail drawings, construction plans, and complete scope of work.
A knowledge of materials, methods and costs involved in the construction of Wood framed Projects.
Strong mathematical, analytical, problem- solving and reporting skills needed.
Strong knowledge and understanding of construction drawings and blueprints required.
Effective
communication
, documentation and listening skills essential.
Excellent time management and organization skills with the ability to work in high-stress situations.
Must be
initiative-taking with a desire to always improve both personally and professionally.
Ability to
work well with others and be part of a team.
