Senior Engineer (High Current Lab)

Annual salary: $109,680 – $138,720


What you’ll do

Powertech’s High Current Lab provides continuous current, current cycling, and accuracy testing on utility and industrial

equipment. We test in accordance with national and international standards. Our independent, third-party status and

experienced technical staff enhance the credibility of manufacturers’ test reports. Our team of engineers and technicians

supervises each test and offers consultation services throughout the planning, execution, and reporting stages of a test

program.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will understand and manage the tests being performed in our labs. You will liaise with

Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and utility clients.

  • Technical Expertise: Act as a subject matter expert for high current and high voltage testing.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direct leadership, mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to the lab team of engineers

and technologists while supporting safe work practices.

  • Project Management: Oversee day-to-day project management including scheduling, forecasting, resource planning, and

progress tracking.

  • Business Development: Identify service opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to operational

efficiency initiatives.

  • Operations & Budgeting: Provide input and recommendations for the department’s budget, operations, and resource

allocation.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Lead equipment maintenance activities, including troubleshooting, planning maintenance

schedules, and ensuring operational readiness.

  • Quality Assurance: Review work in progress and ensure strict compliance with quality and engineering standards.
  • Safety Advocacy: Champion safety by upholding and enforcing all safety protocols and risk mitigation procedures.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to long-term strategic planning and annual goals related to safety, quality, client

satisfaction, and financial performance.


What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related discipline) recognized by universities in

Canada.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering or technical operations experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer

(P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

  • Project Management: Strong skills in budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop technical staff.
  • Problem Solving: Strong ability to support teams in resolving technical or operational challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients, colleagues, and senior leadership.
  • Project Delivery: Solid understanding of managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects from initiation through closure

The salary range for each successful candidate will depend on the level the individual is assessed at. Applicants will be

evaluated based on current status with EGBC,years of experience, relevancy and quality of experience, as well as their

core competencies. Internationally-trained engineers may be considered if eligible for EGBC registration.

Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be

required as a pre-condition to employment.
