Overview
Senior Director of Manufacturing Operations Jobs in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at W3Global
Title: Senior Director of Manufacturing Operations
Company: W3Global
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
The Opportunity
This role sits above a long-tenured Operations Manager who brings deep operational knowledge and credibility. The Senior Director of Operations is expected to complement that strength by adding broader systems thinking, stronger planning and coordination, leadership leverage, and the operating discipline required to scale. Over time, the role is expected to evolve into VP of Operations.
What You Will Do
- Provide senior-level leadership for the operations function while the Operations Manager continues to own core day-to-day execution.
- Build a strong working model with the Operations Manager so the business gains continuity, clearer escalation paths, and stronger strategic oversight.
- Maintain and institutionalize the S&OP cadence so it consistently drives decisions across backlog, capacity, supplier constraints, delivery risk, and execution priorities.
- Lead cross-functional planning and decision-making with Operations, Engineering, Sales, Procurement, and Finance in an Engineering-to-Order manufacturing environment.
- Build stronger management routines, KPI visibility, and operating review cadences across production, scheduling, backlog, delivery performance, and constraints.
- Ensure materials-flow and shop-floor improvements already underway are sustained through recurring routines, visual management, KPI review, and leadership follow-through.
- Clarify decision rights and accountabilities among the owner, Senior Director of Operations, and Operations Manager.
- Coach and develop operational leaders while maintaining respect for existing experience, workforce credibility, and company culture.
- Provide the owner with clear recommendations on priorities, staffing, risk, and actions needed to improve operating performance.
What We Are Looking For
- Senior manufacturing operations leadership experience.
- Strong experience in Engineering-to-Order (ETO)/Discrete manufacturing or similarly complex custom manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading through other operational leaders, not only managing frontline work directly.
- Ability to work effectively with a long-tenured Operations Manager who knows the operation deeply.
- Experience maintaining or maturing an S&OP or comparable operating cadence that connects planning to execution.
- Ability to sustain shop-floor flow and materials-readiness disciplines through KPI review, visual management, and management follow-through.
- High emotional intelligence, practical communication style, and cultural sensitivity with both floor and office teams.
- Strong judgment and adaptability in owner-led businesses.
