Job Summary

Top Shelf Aquatics is seeking a motivated Saltwater Aquarium Maintenance Technician with a passion for reef aquariums and marine life. This role is ideal for someone who has hands-on experience (personal or professional) or is looking to start their career, and is looking to grow into a high-level technician.

You’ll work with high-end marine and reef systems, developing your skills in water chemistry, equipment, and livestock care while delivering a premium service experience to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, water changes, and equipment checks
  • Test and help manage water parameters (salinity, pH, alkalinity, nutrients, etc.)
  • Feed and observe fish, corals, and invertebrates for health and behavior
  • Assist with diagnosing issues such as algae, water quality problems, or livestock stress
  • Service and maintain equipment (pumps, skimmers, lighting, dosing systems, etc.)
  • Support aquarium installations, aquascaping, and system setups
  • Maintain detailed service notes and communicate recommendations to clients
  • Represent TSA professionally at all client locations

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest in saltwater aquariums and reef systems
  • Minimal to intermediate knowledge of aquarium care (personal tank experience is a strong plus)
  • High interest in marine life
  • Willingness to learn and take direction while building independence
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Ambition to learn and grow
  • Ability to perform physical work (lifting up to ~50 lbs, working with water and equipment)
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Good communication and customer service skills

  • Has kept a reef tank or worked with saltwater aquariums
  • Understands basic concepts like salinity, nutrient control, and equipment function
  • Takes pride in clean, well-maintained systems
  • Wants to turn a hobby or interest into a long-term career

Compensation & Growth

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
