Detour Coffee Roasters is seeking to hire a quality-focused, detail-oriented Roastery Assistant to join our Hamilton-based roasting team. As a part-time roastery assistant, you will support the roasting team in all aspects of coffee roasting, including learning systems and processes that enable the roastery to accomplish its weekly production goals.
The ideal candidate is passionate and curious about coffee and can work independently or as part of a team.
This position is currently part-time with the potential to become full-time.
Responsibilities:
● Assist roasting team in all aspects of coffee roasting, including weighing, blending and preparing coffee for roasting.
● Assist in weighing and blending.
● Blend components for the coffee blends to be roasted on the LORING coffee roasting machine.
● Operate the optical sorter using the correct profiles and according to the parameters
● Keep the roasting area clean and follow cleaning schedules as needed.
● Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.
● Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Roaster.
Skill Requirements:
● Maintain a positive attitude with a willingness to step up and help others.
● Possess mechanical aptitude and a keen eye for detail around roasting equipment.
● Ability to remain productive and on task while working alone or in a team environment
● Must be punctual and reliable
● Excellent communication and listening skills in a team setting
Physical Requirements:
● Able to walk and stand for extended periods of time
● Able to bend, stoop and kneel
● Pull, push, lift (above waist), or carry up to 50 pounds assisted
● Ascend and descend ladders, stairs and ramps
Education Requirements:
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Previous experience in coffee preferred
