Do you have an eye for detail and a passion for fresh, high-quality produce? We’re looking for a skilled Ripening Technician to take charge of our state-of-the-art ripening program and help ensure our fruit is always at its peak when it reaches our customers. This is a hands-on role where every day is different — from planning ripening cycles to working with the team and solving unique challenges.
Job Types: Full Time – Temporary to Permanent
Pay Rate: Starting $24/hr final wage based on Experience
Schedule: Sunday – Thursdays 8:30-5:00;
Weekends As Required
Work Location: Southeast, Calgary, AB
What You’ll Do
1. Monitor and manage banana ripening rooms and processes.
2. Evaluate fruit quality, color progression, and readiness for customer requirements.
3. Coordinate inventory movement and product rotation.
4. Ensure food safety, quality, and operational standards are maintained.
5. Identify potential issues and implement corrective actions before they impact operations.
6. Work closely with operations, quality assurance, and customer service teams.
7. Maintain accurate records and reporting using computer-based systems.
8. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the department.
9. Lead and assist team members in daily operations.
What We’re Looking For:
1. Previous experience working with fresh produce is required.
2. Previous fruit ripening experience is an asset; there will be a full training program for the ripening process.
3. Knowledge of food safety programs, HACCP, GMPs, SQF, or other food safety systems is considered an asset.
4. Demonstrated leadership experience in a supervisory or team-lead capacity.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
6. Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and inventory management systems.
7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
8. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
9. Proven ability to anticipate challenges and take proactive action.
10. Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
Ideal candidates for this position will have worked in the following roles:
- Fresh Product Inspector
- Produce Manager/Asst.
- Produce Manager in a retail produce department
- Commercial Kitchen or Food Service Environment handling fresh products
- Produce Warehousing/Distribution Operations
Special Conditions Of Employment:
- This position involves standing, walking, heavy lifting, and repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Must have CSA-approved safety boots
- Forklift certification or warehouse experience is an asset but not required.
- Must be Health & Safety conscious
