Retail Sales Associate for Herman Lumber Ace Hardware
The Retail Salesperson will assist customers with purchasing merchandise and drive sales to support store goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Actively seek out customers, offer a friendly greeting, smile and make eye contact
- Help customers locate merchandise
- Consults with customers to understand their needs and preferences related to merchandise.
- Demonstrates and explains merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for the customer’s needs.
- Describes features and benefits of merchandise as well as steps involved in completing projects
- Perform basic customer services including cutting keys and rope and mixing paint
- Develop knowledge of competitor pricing, and makes decisions on markdowns to satisfy customers
- Follow up on job quotes to complete the sale
- Retrieves merchandise from sales floor, stock room, or other inventory locations
- Places special orders for items that are not in stock
- Drive incremental sales growth by cultivating business relationships with assigned customer portfolio
- Determine how each customer would prefer to be served and tailor communications and customer-facing activities appropriately
- Present concepts that will improve store image, processes and customer experience
- Make regularly scheduled follow-up contact with customers who have purchased special order items and update them on their order status
- Maintain floor display by assisting in the correct tagging, merchandise arrangement and general upkeep of showroom
- Maintain amicable work relationships with fellow employees and perform all essential job functions in an environment that sometimes includes an increased level of stress
- Collects payment using the store point of sale system.
- Processes returns and exchanges.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years account management/sales management experience
- 2 plus years home improvement or home building industry experience
- Computer literacy with Internet Explorer and computer programs
- Forklift experience preferred
- On-the-job training provided.
Environment:
- Associates may have exposure to dust, gas fumes emitted by power equipment and noise
- Associate may be exposed to external weather conditions, drafts and interior temperature changes
- Associates may handle merchandise, supplies and tools with sharp edges or that contain hazardous materials
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit/stand for up to a full eight-hour shift
- Must be able to lift, stoop, push and pull up to 50 lbs’
