Bgc Okanagan is excited to be delivering a new residential program for vulnerable youth. Penny Lane is now a Low Barrier Short Term Stabilization Home.

The program is purposefully designed with a double staffing model, mental health and behavioral supports in place to help vulnerable youth become more stable so they can succeed in the future. The program has 3 beds and youth stay in the program for anywhere from a few weeks to 9 months. The program is very collaborative; working together with each youth and their Circle of Care to create trauma informed, culturally appropriate, strengths focused and person-centered service plans. We offer recreation outings, support navigating resources in the community, engagement with family & other supports – all out of a comfortable home setting. Our goal is to overcome gaps in the system by ensuring that youth in our resource have every opportunity to overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop their confidence and skills for life.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Participates in the assessment, goal setting and progress evaluation of children / youth youth alongside mental health clinician and behavioral consultant and each youth’s Circle of Care.

Teaches children / youth to relate in a socially appropriate manner through the use of daily routines and activities.

Monitors clients in a residential setting and ensures their safety and wellbeing.

Provides behaviour management counselling to clients on a one-to-one and/or group basis by performing duties such as providing feedback on clients’ behaviour, teaching coping techniques and adaptive behaviour and providing guidance and support.

Provides emotional support and crisis intervention to clients which may include non-violent physical interventions.

Ensures communication and liaison between group home, school, family and the community.

Ensures that clients’ physical needs are met by performing duties such as assisting with basic personal hygiene, preparing meals, and administering medication as required in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and instructions.

Maintains reports such as statistics, logbooks, and daily activities on residents.

Carries out household duties such as meal preparation and household cleaning.

Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.

Accompanies clients to appointments and community outings.

May be required to work the on-call rotation.

Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Diploma in a related human / social service field. Two (2) years recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Class 5 drivers license

Successful completion of Agency screening process, including criminal record check

This position is open to all applicants.

This position requires union membership

Hours/Details:

27 hours one week and 36 hours next week rotating

Position #1

– Wednesday to Friday 12:00am-9:00am and rotating Saturday 12:00am-9:00am
