The ACRB is a provincial biobanking program, operating in both Edmonton (Cross Cancer Institute) and Calgary (Tom Baker Cancer Centre), which supports biobanking, bioprocessing and biostorage of biological specimens. It is a platform that enables cancer research by helping to coordinate clinical studies, consenting eligible participants; collecting, processing, annotating and distributing biological samples donated by patients and other participants; and by supporting researcher-specific collections for a variety of other cancer and health-related studies.

Description:
The ACRB Operations Coordinator is responsible for a variety of duties ranging from study design through to lab work and sample shipping – coordinating the biobanking, bioprocessing and biostorage services of both the ACRB and study-specific protocols. This position involves: planning and coordinating projects, interfacing with principle investigators, internal and external AHS departments and staff to enable study protocols and collection;
coordinating the work of team members; updating and maintaining ethics certification and study documentation; maintaining and ordering study and lab supplies; updating collections records and clinical inventory in biobank-specific databases; coordinating sample collections, pick-ups and processing; maintaining lab safety and equipment, and ensuring
quality control
, documentation, data and sample integrity. The position also includes coordinating and maintaining the ACRB biostorage facility and biospecimen inventory, transportation and shipping of samples locally and internationally, maintaining and trouble-shooting equipment and software issues, assisting with 24/7 on-call emergency response to any biobank incidents, and any other procedures as directed by the Manager.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor or technical degree in a science or health-related field.

Required Qualifications:
Previous experience working with human biospecimens within a laboratory setting, including blood and tissue biospecimens.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team.
Able to
lift heavy equipment on a regular basis ( able to lift 15kg above one’s head).
Must have
a flexible schedule and be willing to be on a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Excellent analytical reasoning skills and decision-making skills are required.
Candidates must have strong verbal and written
communication skills
: able to listen, comprehend and convey information in a clear fashion, able to provide information or answer questions in person, by telephone, or email in an accurate, concise manner.
Experience with
detailed database entry and documentation is essential.
Ability to
trouble-shoot in emergency situations is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a science or health-related field with a strong foundation in research and evaluation methodology.
