The Sexual Assault Care Centre/Partner Assault Clinic at the Sault Area Hospital is currently recruiting a Registered Psychotherapist to join their team. The successful candidate will provide services to clients who are victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing trauma therapy to adults, youth, children and their families who have experienced acute and/or historical sexual assault or sexual violence.
  • Conduct trauma-informed psychosocial assessments and provide trauma specific therapy.
  • Engage clients in the co-constructing of therapeutic goals.
  • Provide advanced therapy to assist in resolving issues and processing trauma related to sexual victimization.
  • Maintain accurate client records and statistical reports as required.
  • Respond to requests for reports from collateral services (e.g., Child Welfare agencies, education, and the legal system)”
  • Consult and collaborate with key service providers to ensure an integrated service response for children and adults who have been sexually assaulted or sexually abused
  • Contribute to trauma-informed processes of an interdisciplinary team, participating in team meetings, peer consultation and program maintenance and development.
  • Actively participate in promoting the elimination of sexual violence by advocating against sexual violence and participating in in-service programs regarding sexual abuse, sexual assault and the impact on social and emotional components of health/illness.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling and social programs and initiate improvements to service delivery
  • Provide public education, outreach and consultation to professionals and the general public regarding sexual abuse and sexual assault
  • Staffing and Licensing Requirements:

  • Master of Social Work Degree, Masters of Counseling or equivalent.
  • Registration in good standing with appropriate professional college or governing body.
  • EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three years of clinical counselling experience with survivors impacted by trauma with demonstrated expertise in providing a variety of evidence-based individual and group therapies.
  • Minimum three years of clinical counselling experience with children and youth within a children’s mental health program.

    KILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience providing therapeutically effective practices in responding to and treating trauma.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing trauma focused therapy, including strong assessment, psychotherapy, case management, and advocacy skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of trauma reactions in response to sexual assault and sexual abuse.
  • Demonstrated practice in recognized trauma therapies such as IFS, Trauma focused CBT, Somatic Experiencing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, family therapy, family reunification and EMDR.
  • Strong working knowledge of the child welfare and justice systems and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience working from a client-centered, strengths-based therapeutic framework.
  • An understanding and commitment to a trauma and Feminist informed approaches
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, teamwork, consultation, and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, problem solving, conflict resolution, and ability to work independently Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge, sensitivity and experience in dealing with issues of diversity and individuals from marginalized communities
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes combined with strong community liaison skills and proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in social work values and ethics, theory and established practices of clinical social work, and behavior consistent with SAH vision, mission statement and ICCARE values is required.
