Full job description

The Quality Control Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of cannabis packaging products manufactured within the company. This position involves conducting inspections, tests, and analyses to verify that packaging materials and finished products meet regulatory requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities:

· Perform visual inspections, dimensional measurements, and functional tests on incoming packaging materials, including containers, labels, and closures. Conduct quality checks at various stages of the production process to identify defects, deviations, or non-conformities.

· Maintain accurate records of inspection results, test data, and quality control activities. Complete inspection reports, batch records, and other documentation according to established procedures. Ensure that all records are organized, up-to-date, and compliant with regulatory requirements.

· Implement sampling plans to collect representative samples of packaging materials and finished products for testing. Follow designated sampling procedures and adhere to applicable standards and guidelines.

· Perform analytical tests and physical tests on packaging materials and products to assess their quality, integrity, and performance. This may include tests for seal strength, barrier properties, moisture resistance, and compatibility with cannabis products.

· Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and testing instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results. Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform routine maintenance tasks as needed.

· Stay informed about regulatory requirements and industry standards related to cannabis packaging manufacturing in Canada. Ensure that quality control processes and procedures comply with Health Canada’s regulations, including the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations.

· Investigate quality issues, deviations, and customer complaints related to packaging materials or products. Identify root causes of quality problems and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.

· Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality control procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality standards. Offer support and expertise to resolve quality-related issues and promote a culture of quality within the organization.

· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality control processes, efficiency, and effectiveness. Propose and implement improvements based on data analysis, feedback, and best practices.

· Support Quality Assurance and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry, biology, engineering) preferred.

· Previous experience in quality control or quality assurance, preferably in a manufacturing environment, is desirable.

· Familiarity with quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and quality control methodologies.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record and analyze data.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

· Proficiency in using laboratory equipment, testing instruments, and computer software.

· Knowledge of cannabis regulations and packaging requirements in Canada is an asset.
