POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance & Control Specialist reports directly to the Quality Manager and is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company’s Food Safety and Quality Management Systems. This role will play a key role in establishing quality programs, developing SOPs and documentation, preparing for SQF certification, and supporting future quality system initiatives such as ISO standards. The position will also provide day-to-day quality assurance support to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Quality Assurance Management
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company’s Food Safety and Quality Management System.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining quality procedures, SOPs, work instructions, forms, and related documentation.
- Support quality system initiatives and certification programs, including SQF, HACCP, and future ISO standards.
- Help ensure ongoing compliance with CFIA regulations, SQF requirements, customer requirements, and company quality standards.
- Participate in internal audits, certification audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections, and assist with corrective action follow-up.
- Support food safety programs, risk assessments, traceability, recall preparedness, root cause investigations, corrective and preventive action activities, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain quality records, documentation, and document control systems, and support employee training activities to promote food safety and quality awareness throughout the organization.
Quality Control Support
- Support and verify routine inspections, sampling, environmental monitoring, and quality verification activities to ensure compliance with product specifications, food safety requirements, and company standards.
- Assist in monitoring production, warehouse, sanitation, and GMP activities, and support investigations and corrective actions related to food safety and quality issues.
- Maintain quality records and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout plant operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Nutrition, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment, with experience supporting food safety and quality system development, implementation, or maintenance.
- Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SQF, CFIA regulations, and Food Safety & Quality Management Systems.
- HACCP certification, SQF certification, SQF Practitioner designation, and/or PCQI certification are strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting food safety certification programs, audit activities, and quality system documentation is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin is considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Office and manufacturing-based working environment
- Frequent exposure to refrigerated and production areas
- Ability to stand and walk in production areas for extended periods
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
