The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, creative communications advisor with excellent written and verbal communication skills to work with Corporate Communications. The major responsibilities of this position include:

Planning, organizing and executing media availabilities, including preparing key messages, backgrounders, etc. and briefing all participants.
Releasing information to the media, including writing news releases, acting as spokesperson on behalf of the EPS and preparing sworn and non-sworn EPS members for media interviews.
Planning and implementing public relations strategies, including but not limited to special events and community liaison initiatives.
Researching, planning, writing, editing, and/or contributing to internal and external communication products, such as newsletters, presentations, speeches, question and answer documents, fact sheets, brochures, annual reports, etc. for internal and external audiences.
Coordinating the development of advertising or public service announcement campaigns for communication strategies developed by Corporate Communications. This includes assessing the needs of internal clients, developing advertising material to satisfy communication goals, and managing the development of ads and placement of media buys.
Developing content on the EPS internet and intranet sites in conjunction with internal and external partners.
Writing and photography for social media
Planning issues management and crisis communications strategies.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
University graduation in communications, public relations, or related discipline.
Minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in a designate public affairs or communications position.
Media relations and spokesperson experience is required.
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication/public relations strategies.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as supported by a portfolio of previous work; knowledge of CP Style preferred.
Demonstrated special event planning and implementation experience.
Effective planning and organizational skills and able to work with minimum of supervision.
Must be a team player, and able to multi-task in a busy environment, while being calm and professional.
Practical experience in a police environment is an asset.
Must be prepared to participate in competency testing.
As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, between 0700 – 1700 hours, Monday – Friday.
Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable-hours of work program. Must be available for scheduled after hours on-call rotation duties. Overtime work occurs occasionally.

Salary Range: 21M, Salary Grade: 044, $43.38 – $54.67 (Hourly), $2,928.40 – $3,390.30 (Bi-Weekly), $76,431.76 – $96,316.63 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
