JOB SUMMARY:
Sask Power’s Generation Project Delivery Office (PDO) department is seeking a Project Manager to lead large scale power generation projects including the construction of new power stations. This role will report to the Manager of Generation Project Delivery and be based out of Regina Saskatchewan.
The Project Manager is a key role supporting Sask Power’s development of new assets across the province delivering affordable and reliable power to the residents of Saskatchewan. This position is responsible to manage the overall scope, cost, schedule and risk for assigned projects, including team resource management, project communication, stakeholder engagement, contract development and administration, and change management. This role contributes to the development of new processes and enhanced reporting to manage project activities and effectively communicate project status at all levels.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience leading large scale power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial projects as well as a proven background in engineering and/or industrial construction management. The candidate’s experience must demonstrate strong leadership, collaboration, communication, and stakeholder engagement with internal and external groups. As a senior role within the department, mentorship and coaching of project teams and junior employees is expected.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide effective leadership to the project team in order to define project requirements and develop and maintain project deliverables within all knowledge areas (scope, schedule, cost, risk, procurement, etc.) for effective delivery of projects.
- Manage and resolve any project risks or issues and execute change control as necessary ensuring that project deliverables are completed within baseline budget and schedule and are in compliance with Sask Power policies and procedures .
- Oversee the preparation of contract proposals and provide contract administration throughout the project life cycle to ensure contractor compliance with agreements.
- Monitor project critical paths and trends, identify delay factors, and lead the development, presentation and approval of schedule recovery plans.
- Maintain knowledge of industry developments and best practices related to area of specialization and adapt them to Sask Power’s operational environment.
- Develop and implement appropriate quality, change management and communication strategies
- Anticipate, assess and manage project risks during execution
- Assess, develop and implement new technologies, standards, processes and methodologies
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure necessary and qualified personnel are assigned to projects
- Represent Sask Power on matters both internal and external to the corporation
- Manage and report on project metrics including progress, earned value, baseline, costs, and scope.
- Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients, senior management and executive staff
- Ensure project plans and activities are implemented in accordance with applicable technical, environmental and safety regulations, policies and procedures
- Provide and demonstrate leadership, team building and direction to project personnel including Sask Power and Contractor employees
- Other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Direct experience leading large scale, complex power generation, transmission, distribution or industrial projects in either a green field or brown field environment.
