Production Manager – Edmonton

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Production Manager oversees daily operations for Blown Film Extrusion, Conversion, and Recycling Departments, ensuring consistent production of high‑quality film, bags, and recycled resin in a 24hr / 7 day a week operation. This role leads a team of Supervisors and Production Teams, working closely with Production Planning, and driving safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement across all production lines and supporting processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Production Supervisors and Production Teams with clarity and accountability, fostering a positive, safety‑focused, high‑performance culture.
  • Train employees on blown film processes, safety procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and quality standards.
  • Support workforce planning including scheduling, hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations.
  • Direct and coordinate daily Extrusion, Conversion, and Recycling activities to meet production schedules and customer specifications.
  • Achieve production goals including strong line performance, consistent throughput, and reduced scrap.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to maintain film specifications including gauge, clarity, coefficient of friction, tensile strength, and other customer requirements.
  • Implement corrective actions for defects such as gels, gauge bands, wrinkles, blocking, or contamination.
  • Ensure compliance with BRCGS, ISO, regulatory requirements, and customer audit expectations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and enforce safe work practices around high‑temperature and high‑pressure equipment.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to schedule preventive maintenance for extruders, dies, air rings, winders, and ancillary and downstream equipment.
  • Maintain the computerized maintenance management system alongside Production Supervisors.
  • Reduce unplanned downtime through proactive monitoring, root‑cause analysis, and equipment care.
  • Lead initiatives to improve line efficiency, reduce scrap, and optimize resin usage.
  • Apply Lean principles, 5S, and process optimization techniques to improve throughput and consistency.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends and implement sustainable process improvements.
  • Prepare production reports including line performance, scrap levels, downtime, and material usage.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Technical, and Customer Service teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment.
  • Participate in budgeting, cost control, and capital equipment planning for new lines or upgrades.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications – Education & Experience

  • Diploma or degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience in plastics or manufacturing.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and decision‑making skills.
  • Solid understanding of blown film extrusion equipment, resin behavior, and process control an asset.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting manufacturing and process issues.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, production planning tools, and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Fast‑paced manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and rotating equipment.
  • Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
  • May involve shift work depending on plant operations.
