About us
Wilton Cheese Factory is a small business in Odessa, ON. Wilton Cheese Factory was opened in 1867 and operated as a Farmer’s Cooperative. In the 1970’s it was purchased by the Jensen family, with the stipulation that it maintains its original name. Wilton cheese factory is a division of AM. Jensen limited, our parent company. We have a sister location in Simcoe, named Jensen Cheese.
At our facility, we produce primarily cheddar cheese using an open vat technique. We are one of the few factories left to us this open vat batching technique, and we produce all of our cheese in the traditional method. In house, we cut and package the cheese we produce, labelling it with the Wilton Cheese logo. We also cut and package some more specialty cheeses, which we do not produce in house. We ship cheddar that we produce to Jenson’s in Simcoe where it undergoes either an aging process, a smoking process, or is shredded.
Production Laborer assist the Cheesemaker as required to complete;
1. Pre-operation sanitation procedures,
2. Daily make of cheese and other associated tasks,
3. Post-operation sanitation procedures.
4. Document completion ( Simple production forms )
Requirements:
· Must be eligible to work in Canada.
· Must be currently living in the Kingston Ontario Canada area.
· Hours of work are 3:00 AM to 11:00 AM (approximately).
· Monday – Friday and every other Weekend (Sundays) and Occasional overtime is required.
· Must be punctual, dependable, and able to show up for work as scheduled.
· Work is fast-paced and physically demanding in hot, humid conditions.
· Able to perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment.
· Able to be flexible and responsive to changing production needs.
· Able to take instructions and follow directions.
· Able to read and comprehend Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and other pertinent documents.
· Able to work safely and abide by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
· Able to lift 25+ kgs on a regular basis.
· Able to work as a team and treat others with respect.
· Must complete all required employment training.
· Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes, but is not limited to, hair/beard net, slip-resistant boots, and gloves, in accordance with GMP guidelines.
· Experience an asset, but not essential as all training is provided.
· Basic computer literacy is an asset.
