We are looking for a Manager with demonstrated experience to lead the Casting Operations team at our modernized aluminum smelter in Kitimat, BC. The Manager will drive safety performance and operational excellence for their respective area. The Casting Department is a production department, that oversees the transformation of molten aluminum into various high-quality products including ingots, slab, and sows, ensuring precision and quality throughout the casting process.

Reporting to the Director Operations and working on a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

Work safely in accordance with Rio Tinto health, environment, safety, and community standards, actively promoting our Zero Harm culture.

Ensure all processing operations are conducted correctly, cost-effectively, and on time, meeting specifications and quality requirements, including working outside normal hours as needed.

Enhance operational systems, processes, and best practices to ensure organizational wellbeing.

Contribute to the achievement of Rio Tinto’s strategic and operational objectives.

Utilize financial data to improve profitability and area equipment reliability.

Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues effectively.

Prepare and enter data into various information systems, including work order history, employee pay details, and monthly reports.

Foster a positive employee relations environment, leading with genuine care for people, and reviewing team member performance, providing appropriate feedback and coaching.

What you’ll bring

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

At least 8 years of managerial experience is preferable, in an industrial setting such as mining, processing, manufacturing, or related.

A continuous improvement mindset and experience providing technical support and direction to leaders and employees

Strong analytical skills, including but not limited to financial analysis

Results orientation and critical thinking skills

Effective leadership qualities: the ability to set direction, prioritize and achieve objectives, actively listen, and engage and motivate your team members

Clear, concise, and tactful communication

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
