Buffalo Trail Public Schools requires a full-time probationary teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The teaching assignment will include grade 2/3 literacy/numeracy support and additional duties as assigned by the principal.
The Successful Candidate Will Possess The FollowingA valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
Shall be a dynamic student-centered educator committed to maximizing learning in a safe and caring environment
Experience and/or training in the application of Assessment for Learning strategies, embedded formative assessment, and varied summative assessments is essential
Possess a strong background in the use of technology to enhance student learning
Ability to create a positive learning environment and foster positive professional relationships with students
Is dependable with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a team setting
Demonstrates a strong commitment to professional growth and continually increasing their effectiveness as an educator
A willingness to participate in extracurricular activities would be considered an asset
Experience and/or training with the updated curriculum
Experience and/or training with diagnostic testing in literacy and numeracy
Experience and/or training with collaborative team environments
Irma School is an ECS – 12 school with a projected school enrollment of approximately 275 students and offers a varied program including a strong music and CTS program. Each classroom in our school has computer and SmartBoard technology to promote student learning. Our school has a strong focus on building literacy and numeracy skills. Our elementary teachers have been focusing on planning lessons that are more cross curricular infusing literacy and numeracy into lessons and units. Teachers at all grade levels and subjects have worked to create a program to teach reading comprehension skills based upon the reciprocal method for teaching reading comprehension. We have increased our technology in the last few years to a 1:1 ratio. Our teachers have used professional learning time to increase their knowledge and ability to work with GAFE. We believe all students can learn and our teachers use varied approaches to ensure that the goal is met in the school.
The Village of Irma has approximately 510 inhabitants and the school draws from the farming community around the village. Traditionally Irma has been mixed agriculture and resource based economy; however, military families from Camp Wainwright are also a part of our community. The community provides a solid foundation for the school, and is a strong supporter of school activities. Our school and the community share facilities and resources with each other to promote growth and community spirit. People in our community have access within the village to a grocery store, restaurant, post office, banking, and other amenities. Irma also offers strong sports programs for residents including hockey, curling, and fastball. For those raising a family our community provides a wholesome safe environment for raising your children.
