Private Investigator Jobs in Remote at URBAN AND RURAL PLANNING RESEARCH AND PROJECTS LTD.

We are seeking a licensed Private Investigator to conduct a confidential, independent investigation into anonymous or pseudonymous online reviews and commentary.

The purpose of this engagement is to determine, to the extent legally permissible, the origin, authenticity, and potential coordination of such activity, and to assess whether the conduct may give rise to legal, regulatory, or reputational implications.

All work must be performed in accordance with applicable Canadian laws, including privacy, surveillance, and evidentiary standards.

Scope of Work

  • Conduct open-source intelligence (OSINT) investigations across relevant platforms (e.g., Google Reviews, Yelp, forums, and social media)
  • Analyze patterns, timing, language, and account behavior to identify potential links or coordinated activity
  • Assess credibility of accounts and likelihood of:
  • Misrepresentation or impersonation
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest
  • Coordinated or non-authentic activity
  • Perform lawful digital footprint analysis using publicly available data
  • Document all findings with clear evidentiary standards and chain-of-custody awareness
  • Prepare reports suitable for legal counsel review or potential litigation support

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Private Investigator license in a Canadian jurisdiction (British Columbia strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • Digital / online investigations
  • Reputational or defamation-related matters
  • OSINT methodologies and tools
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Canadian privacy legislation (e.g., PIPEDA)
  • Legal boundaries of surveillance and data collection
  • Ability to produce structured, defensible, and well-documented reports

Preferred Experience

  • Background in cyber investigations, digital forensics, or intelligence analysis
  • Experience supporting legal proceedings or working with law firms
  • Familiarity with platform policies and content moderation frameworks
  • Prior work involving anonymous or pseudonymous identity tracing (within legal limits)

Deliverables

  • Investigation plan outlining methodology and legal considerations
  • Periodic updates (as required)
  • Final report including:
  • Summary of findings
  • Supporting evidence and analysis
  • Limitations and confidence levels
  • Recommendations for next steps (if applicable)

Engagement Terms

  • Contract-based (project scope to be defined)
  • Compensation: Negotiable
  • NDA and confidentiality agreement required prior to engagement
