The Campbell Police Department is seeking motivated individuals who are ready to serve their community and begin a rewarding career in law enforcement. As a Police Officer Trainee, you will attend a California POST-Certified Basic Police Academy. Upon successful graduation, you will be sworn in as a Police Officer, begin an 18-month probationary period, and advance to the first step of the Police Officer salary range.

What You’ll Do

  • Attend and successfully complete a California POST Basic Police Academy.
  • Learn to enforce Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, bicycle, motorcycle, or foot.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Investigate crimes, collect evidence, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Make arrests and testify in court when required.
  • Build positive relationships with community members and support crime prevention efforts.
  • Maintain department equipment and assist other divisions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 40 semester units (60 quarter units) from an accredited college at the time of application.
  • At least 20½ years old when applying and 21 years old at appointment.
  • Valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident who has applied for U.S. citizenship at least one year before applying (and application has not been denied).
  • Meet California POST medical, vision, and physical fitness standards.
  • No prior law enforcement experience required.

Selection Process
Qualified applicants may participate in:

  • PELLETB Written Examination (minimum T-Score of 50) or qualifying academy certification.
  • Physical agility test and 1.5-mile run.
  • Comprehensive background investigation.
  • Polygraph examination.
  • Psychological evaluation.
  • Medical examination.
