The role supports a 71‑year‑old woman living independently in a one‑bedroom apartment in a seniors building. She is warm, chatty and personable, and seeks a caregiver who will engage genuinely with her rather than perform tasks mechanically. She already receives government‑funded PSW support for showers twice a week, but requires supplemental private care for cooking, light housekeeping, and personal care tasks not covered by the PSW.
She uses a walker and a medical leg brace that she cannot put on herself due to limited flexibility. She is unable to cook for herself and relies primarily on fruit for nutrition, so meal preparation is a key need. Her eldest son is her power of attorney and emergency contact; she lives alone and prefers a consistent, familiar caregiver, not rotating or unfamiliar faces.
Female caregiver required. She may occasionally need assistance getting to medical appointments, such as helping her reach a vehicle or the building entrance.
Responsibilities
Meal preparation – cook simple, nourishing meals during visits so the client has proper food for the day.
Brace assistance – help the client put on her leg brace, which she cannot fasten independently.
Light housekeeping – dusting, vacuuming, and general tidying as time allows.
Laundry support – bring laundry to and from the building’s laundry room on the main floor as schedule allows; the client can fold the laundry herself.
Grocery assistance – help put away groceries when delivery arrives.
Companionship – provide genuine, engaged conversation and presence; the client values warmth and connection over task completion alone.
Occasional appointment assistance – help the client get ready and to the building entrance for outgoing appointments.
What We’re Looking For
PSW certification or equivalent experience in personal support or companion care.
Warm, talkative, and genuinely engaging – a real connection is required, not a transactional visit.
Patient and consistent – anxiety means familiarity and reliability are essential; preferably the same caregiver attends each week.
Comfortable assisting with a medical brace and supporting a client who uses a walker.
Female caregiver required.
Located in or near North Bay (Trout Lake area).
Non‑smoker – no smoking allowed during visits.
Schedule
Wednesdays, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM (2 hours/visit). Three‑month recurring schedule. The client is open to flexibility around the exact timing if needed.
Pay & Hours
CAD $27.00 /hr
CAD $54.00 /week (estimated earnings based on 1 day(s)/week)
