Match Box Consulting Group is recruiting on behalf of its client for a Specialist Project Engineer to join a Protection, Control, and Telecommunications Engineering team supporting critical utility infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will join a Project Engineering and Commissioning team that plays a key role in delivering technically complex infrastructure projects. This position is well suited to a senior engineer with strong experience leading multidisciplinary engineering work, managing technical risk, and supporting projects involving protection and control systems, telecommunications infrastructure, and system integration within an electric utility environment.
Responsibilities

Manage the engineering scope of large or technically complex infrastructure projects, including coordination of scope, schedule, and cost

Act as Owner’s Engineer Lead on projects where engineering work is performed by external consultants or vendors, coordinating internal review and acceptance of third-party deliverables

Work closely with Project Managers to support project execution and alignment across engineering and delivery requirements

Identify and manage technical project risks, including system integration with existing transmission infrastructure

Work with functional leaders to establish engineering teams and define project design, review, schedule, and resource plans

Coordinate the development of technical specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation, and manage consultant engineering support where required

Collaborate with construction, contract management, engineering, quality, and field operations teams to provide technical support during manufacturing, construction, testing, and commissioning

Prepare and review recommendations, technical communications, and presentations for management on complex engineering and project matters

Coach and mentor project team members and support the development of engineers in similar roles across the organization

Contribute to department objectives, performance measures, engineering process improvements, workflow enhancements, and quality assurance practices

Support problem identification, risk mitigation, and development of practical engineering solutions across technically challenging projects

Chair technical meetings and participate in presentations, seminars, courses, and industry discussions as needed
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or an advanced degree in a related engineering discipline recognized by Canadian universities
-
Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
-
Strong understanding of EGBC quality management guidelines, continuing education requirements, and code of ethics

Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: transmission power systems, industrial control systems, telecommunications networks, cybersecurity, or systems engineering

Minimum 4 years of experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design work on medium to large infrastructure projects

Strong understanding of how engineering projects impact transmission system operations and multidisciplinary project delivery

Strong leadership, coordination, and communication skills, including technical writing and stakeholder engagement
-
Good understanding of project management principles and engineering project delivery processes
-
Experience coordinating internal teams, external engineering partners, and project stakeholders across complex technical projects
-
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing

Willingness to travel to project sites as required
Assets
-
Experience managing Owner’s reviews of externally completed multidisciplinary engineering work

Experience with telecommunications and/or protection and control projects
-
Knowledge of utility project delivery practices and engineering design processes
-
Site experience on large construction projects such as substations, transmission lines, or hydroelectric facilities
-
Experience supporting projects across the full lifecycle, from conceptual design through testing and commissioning
