Scholars Calgary Willow Park is seeking passionate and enthusiastic part-time English Language Arts (ELA) and Reading tutors to join our team. The Role
We are looking for a Grade 1–12 ELA Teacher based in Calgary, Canada, to provide in-person tutoring at our Willow Park location. The successful candidate will be trained on Scholars’ proprietary teaching methodology, focusing on closing learning gaps and building student confidence.
Key Responsibilities & Skills
In addition to general English instruction, you will focus on:
- Literacy Development: Implementing strategies for early literacy, including phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency for elementary students.
- Reading Comprehension: Guiding older students through critical analysis, inference, and vocabulary development.
- The Writing Process: Assisting with essay structure, grammar, and creative expression across various grade levels.
- Individualized Support: Tailoring your approach to meet the specific ELA curriculum standards of Alberta Education.
What We’re Looking For
- Certified Teacher preferred.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated success teaching ELA and Reading to students in K–12.
- Communication: Exceptional command of the English language with the ability to explain complex literary concepts simply.
- Engagement: An outgoing personality ready to work individually or in small groups (up to 3 students) to make learning fun!
- Organization: Exceptionally organized with high attention to detail regarding student progress tracking.
- Bonus Asset: Ability to teach French is a significant plus.
Availability Requirements
Candidates must be able to work a minimum of two shifts per week during our hours of operation. We are closed during holidays and offer a flexible environment.
- Monday – Friday: 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm
- Sundays: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 3-20 per week
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
