Water and Waste Services

Job Summary

Under the direction of certified Utility Systems Operators, this incumbent will assist in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair if the water distribution, and wastewater and storm water collection systems.

Responsibilities

Assist in to maintain, service and repair fire hydrants, valves, etc. and maintain records. Assist with thawing of water and sewer services, sewer and storm mains and setting up pumps for dewatering. Assist with implementation of the summer Vactor program, including flushing of manholes, storm and sewer mains and maintain program records. Move equipment and material to and from job sites and perform labour duties.

Read and interpret maps, blue prints, and service records. Answer and/or refer enquiries and complaints from the general public to the appropriate department. Follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards. Act as System Maintenance Person 1 or Warehouse Person as assigned. Other related duties. Position Requirements

Working Conditions Work is carried out in an outdoor environment with continuous exposure to disagreeable conditions such as dust/dirt, fumes/odours, extreme noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, bodily waste/fluids, human waste, fats, oils, rancid food grease, raw sewage, hazardous chemicals and will occasionally include confined spaces.
