Estabrook’s is a family owned and operated garden center with a year round location in Yarmouth, Maine and a seasonal location in Kennebunk, Maine. With close to 30 growing greenhouses and a new state of the art production growing range in Pownal, Maine, Estabrook’s not only offers high quality products, but is a local destination for design consultations, landscaping needs and bulk goods for your garden projects.
Estabrook’s is a retail business open seven days a week. Hourly positions vary from Seasonal to Year-Round and can be part-time or full-time covering weekdays and weekends. Our retail space is located inside and outside, and our offices are on the first and second floors of older buildings with only stairs. Benefits are available for Year-Round staff working 30 or more hours per week.
We are looking for a Full Time Year Round Nursery Sales Support staff member to join our team at our Yarmouth location. The position requires a willingness to work as a team, attention to detail and a knowledge of horticulture.
Position Requirements:
- Assist customers with plant and product locations and other basic information.
- Assist customers with gardening questions and help provide follow up for more involved questions.
- Acquire in depth knowledge of plant materials available, growing requirements and proper placement of plants to advise customers.
- Ability to sell additional related/supplementary product to customers to ensure maximum plant growth.
- Participate in the pulling, tagging and transferring of product for wholesale and retail customers.
- Locate, move, stock, clean, patch, organize and rotate plant material to maximize sales by displaying the best quality product available.
- Provide daily plant care to include watering and pruning.
- Unload product from delivery trucks.
- Clean and maintain yard area and follow safe work practices to help ensure a clean and safe environment for customers and employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Competencies:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Studies, Horticulture, or a similar field.
- Basic knowledge of horticulture/botany and individual flower, plant, shrub, and tree requirements preferred.
- Knowledge of plant production, soil, fertilizers, and growing techniques.
- Knowledge/certification of light equipment (loaders, forklifts etc.) a plus.
- Good health, strength, and endurance to perform the work as there are the following physical demands on a regular basis: move heavy objects, stand, kneel, crouch.
- Strong verbal and active listening skills
- Ability to quickly determine customer needs, devise and present solutions.
- Project a positive attitude about our products and services.
- Highly dependable.
- Ability to work 40+ hours a week including weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Nursery staff must be able to lift and carry material weighing up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- The work involves frequent walking, bending, stooping, twisting and climbing in and out of the equipment.
- Nursery staff spend much of their time on their feet handling material and moving continually.
- You must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Frequent lifting, carrying and maneuvering of material requires good overall physical strength and flexibility. This includes frequent bending, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing and pulling of material up to 50 pounds.
