What we’re looking for

We are looking for a Microbiology Analyst II to join our Scientific team in a Full-time position. This role is based at our Fraser Head Office in Liberty Village, Toronto
, and requires working on-site five days a week.

Pay range

The anticipated base salary for this position is $70,000 to $75,000. Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new raw materials and finished goods to establish “Acceptance Criteria” based on product categories.
  • Design and execute stability programs and “Period After Opening” (PAO) in-use studies to determine product shelf life.
  • Perform Microbial Enumeration, Specified Organism Detection, Preservative Efficacy Testing (PET), and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) testing, microbial identification.
  • Execute Method Suitability and Method Validation protocols for new products and processes.
  • Investigate and resolve microbial challenges in new and existing products to ensure formula stability.
  • Perform isolate identification and manage the laboratory’s stock culture collection for quality control testing.
  • Coordinate and process sampling for air, surfaces, water, equipment, and personnel to ensure facility hygiene.
  • Operate and maintain specialized lab equipment (e.g., pH meters, water activity meters, autoclaves, Masterclaves, and automated plate pourers) and manage their qualification and calibration schedules.
  • Prepare, review, and approve departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead laboratory investigations for Out-of-Specification (OOS) and Out-of-Trend (OOT) results, utilizing critical thinking to resolve test design or execution issues.

Qualifications

  • Experience in manufacturing sites for cosmetics or pharmaceutical is an asset.
  • Familiarity with preservative efficacy in various cosmetic formulations is an asset.
  • GMP/GLP trained and aseptic technique qualifications are an asset.
