Permanent About the Role

CASA Classrooms are CASA’s new model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child’s mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions. The Mental Health Therapist will:

Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide high-quality trauma-focused mental health therapies to children, teens and families.

Build specialized parenting skills for caregivers with children who have exceptional needs.

Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.

Conduct case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists, community services and other professionals involved with the child and their family.

Coordinate consultation with others therapists or external partners as appropriate.

Supervise and/or precept student placements.

Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy.

A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.

Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)

Conditions of Employment
