Essential Responsibilities:
Plans, designs and implements mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, and mechatronic systems and products
Designs products and systems such as winches, winch systems, winch accessories, truck mounted equipment, hydraulic systems, electric winch systems, and integrated control solutions
Designs products and systems using common machine design elements, hydraulics, brakes, clutches, gear design, castings, fabrications, machined parts, electric motors, motor controls, and automation systems
Creates and modifies 3-D CAD models, drawings and Bills of Material for mechanical and mechatronic systems
Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, industry standards, customer requirements, and electrical safety codes
Computes magnitude, direct and point of application of tension, compression and bending forces and develops geometric shapes of machine parts to accommodate operating loads
Compiles and/or analyzes test data to determine effect of design on machine in relation to such factors as temperature, pressure, volumes, speed, tension, horsepower, electrical loads, and control system performance
Provides direction to test engineering to validate new designs including mechanical, electrical, and control system components
Assists in reviews/approvals of drawings, models, standard compliance as assigned for both mechanical and electrical systems
May approve drawings, and/or approve ECO’s under direction of Project Engineer, Engineering Manager, or Director Engineering and Service
Works with manufacturing, production, and quality control to ensure that parts and/or products meet engineering and customer requirements for both mechanical and electrical components
Other essential duties may be assigned as required
This position is also responsible for, with authority to follow ISO procedures, initiate action to prevent problems, document quality problems, contribute to problem solutions, verify implementation of solutions, control further processing when a problem is identified, protect the environment, including preventing pollution, analyzing or identifying areas for correction or improvement.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Required:
Professional Engineering Certification (P. Eng Canada) preferred, with 4-8 years of successful experience in mechanical engineering, with demonstrated experience in mechatronic systems
Advanced experience with:
Mechanical systems and elements, Design analysis of systems and components, 3-D CAD systems and drawings procedures, Integrating electronics and software with mechanical elements, Design of experiments, Hydraulics system design, Intermediate project management experience.
Experience with the design of castings, sheet metal, weldments, machined parts, machine elements, and machine assemblies.
Experience integrating electronics, sensors and software with mechanical elements preferred.
Experience with electric motor selection, motor control systems, VFDs, and industrial automation preferred.
Must be able to travel as required and /or directed.
Preferred:
Working knowledge of mobile equipment, cranes, winches, hoists, and geared machinery.
Electrical system development with motors, VFDs, and control systems.
Experience with electric winch systems, battery-powered equipment, and renewable energy integration.
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (CAN bus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
Experience with PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Plus One etc.) and HMI development
Gated Product Development processes, Critical Chain, and other similar project management processes
Familiar with thermodynamics and electro-mechanical power transmission
Design of experiments and statistical analysis.
Familiarity with all phases of new product development from initial concepting, validation, production, and ongoing maintenance.
