Experience

**We would be willing to train someone interested a meat cutting apprenticeship, if they are interested in a long term position after training.**

  • Previous experience in meat cutting or food production is preferred.
  • Familiarity with culinary practices, including food handling and preparation techniques.
  • Strong knife skills and knowledge of various cuts of meat. this is a plus, but we would train a candidate with the correct background.
  • Experience in a restaurant or kitchen environment is advantageous.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers.

Job Title: Full-Time Meat Cutter

Reports to: Meat Market Manager

Job Summary:

The Full-Time Meat Cutter is responsible for the preparation, cutting, and presentation of meat products in the retail meat case. This role involves ensuring product quality, maintaining safety standards, providing excellent customer service, and assisting with inventory management. A focus on craftsmanship, attention to detail, and customer engagement is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meat Cutting and Preparation:
  • Cut, trim, and package various meat products, including beef, pork, poultry, and lamb, according to store standards and customer specifications.
  • Maintain an organized work area and ensure all cutting tools and equipment are cleaned and sanitized regularly.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Inspect meat products for freshness, appearance, and quality, ensuring that all items displayed meet store standards.
  • Maintain accurate labeling on all products, including pricing, weights, and nutritional information.
  • Customer Service:
  • Provide exceptional service by engaging with customers, answering questions, and making recommendations for meat cuts and preparation techniques.
  • Assist customers with special orders and custom cuts, ensuring their satisfaction with each purchase.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Monitor inventory levels of meat products and communicate with the manager about restocking needs.
  • Participate in regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records of meat products for inventory management.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Follow all health and safety/ USDA regulations and food safety practices, including proper handling, storage, and display of meat products.
  • Adhere to store policies regarding hygiene and cleanliness in the workplace.
  • Utilize day dots to track product freshness and rotation effectively, ensuring compliance with inventory practices and minimizing waste.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other meat department staff to ensure efficient operations and excellent customer service.
  • Assist in training new team members on cutting techniques and customer service expectations when required.
  • Merchandising and Display:
  • Contribute to the presentation and merchandising of the meat case, ensuring a visually appealing display that promotes sales.
  • Collaborate with the manager to plan promotions, specials, and seasonal offerings in the meat department.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a culinary program or meat cutting apprenticeship preferred.
  • Previous experience as a meat cutter or in a similar role in a retail environment.
  • Strong knowledge of various cuts of meat and meat preparation techniques.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage time efficiently.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation practices.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks, including cutting and lifting.
  • Willingness to work in cool and wet environments typical of meat cooler areas.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily in a meat processing environment, interacting with both customers and team members. Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Pay: $40,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
