Marketing Coordinator (Summer) – Videography Focus, Faculty of Social Work Jobs in Calgary at University of Calgary

The Faculty of Social Work is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Marketing Coordinator (Summer) – Videography Focus.

This position reports to the Marketing Manager, Faculty of Social Work, and works with other members of the Marketing & Communications team to support recruitment marketing and communications initiatives.

The work focuses on planning, producing, and editing digital content (short-form video, photography, and supporting graphics) to support program recruitment.

The position works primarily during standard business hours; however, occasional flexibility may be required to capture content at events, classrooms, and community locations. Work may be completed on-site and/or in a hybrid arrangement, and may involve travel within Alberta to support Faculty activities across Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge campuses.

This role has been approved by Canada Summer Jobs for 9 weeks at 30 hours per week. Anticipated start date is June 15-23.

To be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the summer job.
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job and
    be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • This includes having a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of their summer job

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

DIGITAL CONTENT CREATION (Primary Focus)

  • Plans, films, and edits short-form videos featuring students, faculty members, and alumni to support program recruitment aligned with University brand guidelines.
  • Conducts on-camera interviews by preparing questions, setting up recording equipment, and ensuring clear audio and video capture to produce usable, high-quality content.
  • Captures high-quality photography at events, classrooms, and/or community locations to build a library of current visual assets for recruitment and communications needs.
  • Edits photos and videos for use across web, social media, and digital advertising by applying appropriate formatting, captions, and accessibility considerations where required.

DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA SUPPORT

  • Creates and adapts content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube by tailoring format, length, and messaging to audience and platform requirements.
  • Monitors social media trends and emerging content styles to recommend timely, relevant approaches that improve engagement and reach.
  • Assists with drafting concise copy for digital ads and social posts to support recruitment marketing priorities.
  • Organizes and maintains digital media assets (photo/video files and project components) to enable efficient retrieval, reuse, and collaboration within the team.

RECRUITMENT MARKETING SUPPORT

  • Supports updates to student-facing promotional materials (web content, one-pagers, digital screens) by revising and formatting content as directed and ensuring alignment with brand standards.
  • Assists with research and planning for the upcoming recruitment cycles by reviewing similar organizations’ content and contributing to planning discussions.
  • Completes small administrative tasks related to marketing and communications to support team workflows and deadlines.

TEAMWORK AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participates in weekly check-ins, planning meetings, and brainstorming sessions, providing progress updates and contributing ideas for digital communication strategies.
  • Learns and follows Faculty of Social Work and University communications standards, including accessibility, privacy, and record management practices.
  • Uses equipment and software responsibly (e.g., laptop, camera and audio equipment, content creation software) and reports issues or needs in a timely manner.

Qualifications / Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience creating digital content for web and social media (video, photo, and graphic content).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, film, and edit short-form video content; comfort conducting and recording on-camera interviews.
  • Ability to capture and edit high-quality photographs; familiarity with DSLR cameras is required.
  • Working knowledge of digital content tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and maintain digital media assets and files. Experience with Microsoft Office 365, including Sharepoint and One Drive, is preferred.
  • Ability to write clear, audience-appropriate marketing copy for social and digital ads is an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment and contribute ideas through brainstorming and planning sessions.
  • Ability to follow brand standards and apply accessibility and privacy considerations in content creation.
