The part-time Maintenance Worker will be required to work Monday to Friday, evening shifts from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.Position SummaryReporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Worker will perform maintenance and repairs in various areas, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance. The successful candidate will maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and interact positively with our tenant population.

Duties And Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and repairs in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.

Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and interact positively with tenant populations who have experienced homelessness, mental health, and addiction problems.

Maintain inventory and take care of tools and equipment.

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle throughout employment.

Must be able to lift 25 kilograms.

Knowledge of group processes and dynamics.

Demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with Housing co-workers and interact positively with the tenant population.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Demonstrated organizational, time management, and administration skills.

Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in languages other than English, an asset.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Grade 12 education.

A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.

Good communication and organization skills.

Working knowledge of building management/maintenance routines, the Ontario Fire Code, and the Ontario Building Code, and ability to ensure that Occupational Health and Safety, WHMIS, and other relevant standards and legal requirements are met.

Several years experience working with people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Knowledge of tenant population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices, and systemic reasons for homelessness.

Experience with rental legislation in Ontario.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of relevant laws, standards, and guidelines.

Knowledge of resources and services available in the community.

Certificates in first aid, CPR, crisis prevention, and intervention are assets.

Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.

Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the agency’s operational requirements.

Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
