Overview

Mars Cheese Castle is seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance Technician to help keep our facility operating safely and efficiently. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, completing repairs, and maintaining the overall appearance and functionality of the building and grounds. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, takes pride in their work, works well independently, and responds promptly to maintenance needs in a fast-paced environment. This role is essential to ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained experience for our customers and employees.

Hours:

This position is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Regular attendance is expected and considered an essential function of the position. Occasional schedule adjustments or additional hours may be required to support business needs, including emergency maintenance or special projects. A standard forty-hour workweek is expected.

Key Objectives:

  • Ensure proper working order and function of all equipment (including safety equipment and code compliance), buildings, and grounds to satisfy a “new” or “like new” condition.
  • Keep work spaces (namely the workshop) clean, neat, orderly, and organized to the order that anyone could enter that space find tools easily
  • Keep and maintain highly organized records (user/owner manuals, equipment servicing documents, etc.)
  • Schedule appointments for work to be done by external companies (for work that cannot be completed internally and with Upper Management’s permission) then oversee such work to ensure it is done correctly
  • Assume responsibility for evaluating each assigned task for potential safety hazards and determining the equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), resources, assistance, or other measures necessary to perform the work safely. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that appropriate safety precautions are identified, implemented, and followed before, during, and after the performance of work. Any additional equipment, PPE, resources, or assistance required to safely complete a task must be promptly communicated to management, and any required purchases must receive approval prior to incurring expenses. Work is expected to be performed safely and in accordance with all applicable safety requirements and established procedures.

Examples of Common Tasks Expected to Perform:

  • Train, educate, supervise, and strategically utilize subordinate staff of your department (if any).
  • Utilize computer, windows operating system, Microsoft office suite.
  • Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electronic testing devices.
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment that does not require a licensed electrician.
  • Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
  • Order parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliers as directed.
  • Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
  • Perform general cleaning duties of buildings or properties.*
  • Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
  • Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts (if properly trained to do so).
  • Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
  • Test and treat water supply.
  • Install equipment to improve energy demands or operational efficiency.
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, or tools.
  • Set up and supervise work of subcontractors.
  • Align and balance new equipment after installation.
  • Assemble fixtures.
  • Make safety improvements to fixtures.
  • Provide groundskeeping services, such as landscaping or snow removal.*
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, or other measuring instruments.
  • Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings.
  • Position, attach, or blow insulating materials to prevent energy losses from buildings, pipes, or other structures or objects.
  • Estimate costs to repair machinery, equipment, or building structures.
  • Grind and reseat valves, using valve-grinding machines.
  • Reliable and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager.
