Machinist & Mechanical Specialist (Hybrid Role) Jobs in Kamloops, BC at Progressive Air Group

Are you a master craftsman who enjoys variety, precision, and solving mechanical puzzles?

Progressive Air is looking for a multi-talented Machinist & Mechanical Specialist to join our engine overhaul team. This is not a high-volume production machining job. There is no mindlessly running the same CNC program thousands of times here. Instead, this is a high-precision, low-volume "specialty repair" environment where your skills truly matter.

Choose Your Path: Career or Partial Retirement

We know that elite mechanical talent comes in different stages of life, so we are offering this role with ultimate flexibility:

  • The Part-Time Path (Perfect for Partial Retirement): Keep your mind sharp and your hands busy. Focus primarily on the precision machining, custom tooling, and component refurbishment side of the shop on a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
  • The Full-Time Path (Build a Career): Expand your footprint. Combine your machining expertise with heavy-duty mechanical repairs, engine teardowns, and advanced aviation inspections to become a lead component specialist within our facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Precision Machining: Set up and operate manual or CNC lathes and mills to refurbish and repair intricate components for Lycoming and Continental piston engines to strict aviation tolerances.
  • Mechanical Support: (Full-Time Focus) Assist in engine teardowns, troubleshooting, and the repair of heavy mechanical assemblies, including engine casings, crankshafts, and specialized accessories.
  • Tooling & Jigs: Put your creativity to work by designing and fabricating custom shop tools, jigs, and fixtures to improve overall shop efficiency and safety.
  • Inspection & NDT: If qualified, utilize Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methodologies to inspect critical, high-asset aviation components for structural integrity.
  • Aviation Documentation: Maintain meticulous, clear records of all machining and inspection work in strict accordance with Transport Canada and OEM standards.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

  • Core Skillset: 5+ years of proven experience as a Machinist. A Red Seal certification or equivalent deeply rooted trade experience is highly valued.
  • The "Hybrid" Edge: Background experience in Heavy-Duty Mechanics, Automotive engine building, or Millwright work is a massive asset for our team.
  • NDT Capabilities: Level II NDT certification is a major asset and will be directly reflected in your compensation package.
  • The Aviation Mindset: You inherently understand that "close enough" is never an option. You take immense pride in the "mechanic’s touch," exact precision measurements, and pristine safety standards.
  • Dynamic Problem Solver: You genuinely enjoy a role where you can flex your skills, support daily problem-solving on the floor, and comfortably switch tasks to help keep the shop moving forward.
