Nasittuq (pronounced “na-see-took”) is an Inuktitut word which means “looking out from the highest point”. Nasittuq provides site support and management services for two distinct contracts: the North Warning System Contract located through out the north and the Ellesmere Island Commercial Support Contract in Alert, Nunavut. In January 2021, Nasittuq Corporation became an Inuit controlled corporation.
The shareholders of the company include Nunasi Corporation, PAIL and ATCO Frontec.
Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.
SCOPE:
The Logistician is responsible for the proper management of Government Furnished Equipment and all materials at their Logistics Support Site (LSS) or Long Range Radar Site (LRR).
This is a full time, Unionized rotational position. The candidate must be comfortable working in colder climates, during a 6 week on, 6 week off rotation schedule. All travel to/from site, including board and meals, is provided.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform inventory control (issue, receive, distribute, and dispose of inventory)
Handle, package, and label materials for shipment
Determine method of shipment and arranging shipping using online tools
Operate material handling equipment and performs manual labour duties, maintains good housekeeping practices
Manage shelf life
Shipping of dangerous goods
Coordinate transportation of personnel and trips to LRR and SRR sites
Respond to and dealing with internal and external communications by email and phone
Load and unload goods from trucks/aircraft
Unpack, code and route goods to appropriate storage areas
Maintain general tidiness and warehouse organization
Assist in effecting design changes to improve equipment efficiency and/or reducing cost of operation.
Perform other duties as assigned and/or are transient in nature
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S):
A valid driver’s license
Transportation of Dangerous Goods by air/roads/sea.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience working in a high volume inventory control, shipping/receiving, computerized warehouse or distribution facility.
Experience handling Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) and associated control processes
Experience utilizing inventory control software application on personal computers
Experience/knowledge of custom control points and processes would be an asset
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge of inventory control processes and/or software applications
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficient with MS Word and Excel and previous knowledge/use of databases (Maximo)
Customer service training/skills
Ability to travel as part of a small team to adjacent sites to perform functions
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required
Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions in remote Arctic locations
