The City has an opening for a Lead Hand Forest Management in the Urban Forestry Operations team in the Parks Division. Reporting to the Natural Areas Supervisor, the Lead Hand Forest Management will implement a range of forest management activities and community engagement initiatives. These activities include invasive plant species removals, habitat restoration plantings, community stewardship projects, monitoring of forested areas, and data entry related to monitoring.

The Lead Hand will supervise a small crew of seasonal labourers who will assist with these activities. This position works Tuesday to Saturday and works with volunteers, community groups, local businesses and school groups to maintain and enhance the City’s forested areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of local ecosystems, native and invasive plant species identification and habitat restoration practices.
  • A diploma in biology, forestry or natural resource management; experience with habitat restoration and enhancement is an asset.
  • Possess Pesticide Applicator Certification; candidates without certification may be considered provided they complete certification during probationary period at their own expense.
  • A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia with a satisfactory driving report.
