Wage range: $25.17 – $25.91 per hour
Status: Permanent full time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: 0730-1530

Position Summary

The Laundry Sorter/Washer is an integral member of the Linen/Laundry department and performs duties in accordance with departmental and hospital standards of practice, policies, and procedures to ensure we provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Primary Duties

Collecting, sorting, washing, drying and folding soiled linen and laundry items received/recovered from different areas of the hospital;
Sorting and issuing scrubs, staff uniforms and lab coats;
Processing linen inventory requests from nursing units;
Performing filing and documentation duties related to laundry requests and for occupational health reasons;
Performing inventory and stocking duties of linen, detergents and chemicals;
Performing general machine maintenance responsibilities;
Working in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner;
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications

At minimum completion of high school or recognized equivalent required.
Ability to successfully complete tow motor training program and obtain license to safely transport linen carts (Toronto General only)
Tow Motor/Fork lift license preferred
3 to 6 months related experience
Ability to be on feet (standing and walking) for long periods of time required
Ability to push/pull carts weighing up to 23kgs required
Simple mathematical calculations (adding & subtracting) skills required.
Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand.
Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: pushing, pulling & maneuver heavy (up to 23kgs) linen cart safely, driving a tow motor.
May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
