Landscaping plays a key role in shaping our urban neighborhoods and is a primary determinant of our city’s environmental, financial and social sustainability. The development industry supports this sustainability by contributing approximately $13 million annually in landscaping infrastructure to the City of Edmonton, through the development process. To mitigate long term maintenance liabilities, the Landscape Technician I ensures developer contributed landscaping infrastructure meet all appropriate requirements prior to Construction approval.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to review, provide comments or recommend acceptance of drawings submitted for landscaped areas within City of Edmonton greenfield and infill areas.

Review and prepare responses to consultant’s landscaping designs and drawings particularly in infill development
Attend meetings to explain design comments made on For Approval drawings
Provide direction to consultants regarding design standard clauses or details that are unclear as part of the landscaping drawing approval process
Provide feedback on design standards that require revisions due to challenges experienced during drawings review
Recommend approval of drawings when City requirements, standards and other regulations have been met
Attend meetings to explain design comments made on For Approval drawings
Provide direction to consultants regarding design standard clauses or details that are unclear as part of the drawing approval process
Respond to inquiries from consultants, developers and citizens by assessing city standards, policies and providing further investigations and response as required with guided supervision
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, council and senior management in implementation of city standards, policies, bylaws and supporting other internal agencies by providing input / technical support where necessary
Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Completion of a two-year Technical Diploma in Landscape Technology or a related field from a recognized institution

Assets:

Experience in landscape design construction will be considered an asset

Skills required for success:

Demonstrated training in landscape architectural practice, design and drafting
Detailed knowledge of appropriate plant material with the ability to select plants for specific applications
Knowledge of landscape and construction terminology, techniques and practices
Proven ability in reviewing and interpreting landscape plans, drawings and specifications
Excellent communication, technical writing, organizational and negotiation skills
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build working relationships with the development industry stakeholders (consultants, developers, contractors and other internal City of Edmonton staff)
Demonstrated computer skills including CAD, Microsoft Office, digital filing systems, Google Drive, Gmail, SAP and SLIM
Attention to detail with the ability to verify and assess documentation
Ability to be a team player in a multidisciplinary work environment
Ability to prioritize competing tasks and complete work on time

Conditions of Employment

Must possess a Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Work Environment:
Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday

Salary: $34.310 – $43.098 (Hourly); $60,445.640 – $75,927.900 (Annually)
