HOURS/WEEK: 35 hours per week

The SEED’s mission: to run programs and social enterprises that increase physical and financial access to nutritious food among people facing food insecurity.

Brief Description:

The SEED is a community food project of the Guelph Community Health Centre. About 16% of households in Guelph are food insecure (Guelph Wellbeing study, 2014). The SEED’s goal is to change that by offering programs and services that tackle the root causes of poverty. We are supported by hundreds of amazing community members and by many partner organizations.

We are seeking a youth between the ages of 18-30 to support the SEED team as a kitchen assistant. This role offers hands on experience for someone looking to work in the restaurant industry or as part of a team working towards food security in our community.

Eligibility requirements

This position is partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs fund. In order to be considered for this job you must:

be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment contract;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment (student visas do not qualify); and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Basic Responsibilities:

Youth in this role will work as part of the SEED team and Upcycled Kitchen as an assistant.

develop spice blends and dried goods to sell through Groceries from The SEED
Assist with revising Souper Heroes Soup packaging
Prepare meals with Upcycled Kitchen
Help to coordinate project activities surrounding food access and security in our community

Required Qualifications:

Interest in working in a kitchen and preparing food
Interest in working with volunteers and community members
Ability to multitask

Work well as part of a team
